Next Meeting

Well, we're off for the summer. Our next meeting will not be until September. I hope you all have a great summer of fishing. Look for details of the next meeting in August.

We'll also be doing some fly tying and have swap table so bring items you'd like to swap. We look forward to seeing you all there and hearing about your great fishing adventures.

Master's Classes and Trips

If you haven't been on a trip or attended one of our Master's Classes you're missing some of the best features of being a Candlewood Valley TU member. This year we had an amazing series of classes from experts like Tom Rosenbauer, George Daniels, Jack Smola, and a host of others.

These events are reasonably priced and focused on making you a better fisher person.  Starting in the fall we'll start our next series of Master Classes by experts such as Thomas Ames, Loren Williams, Rick Kustich, Rob Lewis and George Daniels.

Check out the Master's Classes, Trips and Events Forum for details about upcoming events.

Tom Rosenbauer's Stream Reading

The guys who wrote the book came to the Farmington River with a group of ten CVTU members to teach about the art of stream reading. After two hours in the classroom, we spent a couple hours on the Farmy reading water. That was capped off by a few hours on the water fishing with Tom and the rest of the CVTU clan. Sweet! Check out our pictures from the day.

George Daniels put on quite a show!

At our last meeting, George Daniels did a presentation on small stream fishing. Not only was the presentation good, but he also put on a casting demonstration on his own variations of the bow and arrow cast. Very cool stuff. Thanks, George!

Thanks to all for a great Youth Education Day!

Last Saturday we ran our second annual Youth Education Day at the Pratt Nature Center in New Milford. Thirty-eight children and their parents enjoyed a day of fly casting, fly tying, macroinvertebrate studies and, of course, trout. Thanks to all our volunteers and supporters of this wonderful event.

New Feature: Ask Brook

We've added a new feature on our forums that we'll be updating on a regular basis. We'll scour the internet and the brains of our members for the "best" answers to perplexing questions. The inaugural question is above.

What a weekend!

We started with our annual banquet on Friday night. Eighty plus people came to share fishing stories, have a nice meal, raise some money for the chapter and listen to James Prosek speak about his travels. Fantastic! Thank you to all who contributed and attended.

And as if that couldn't be topped we had the Farmington River Stream walk with Jack Smola today. Twenty chapter members and friends got a guided tour of the major pools, learned about technique and even got a guided tour of Jack's fly boxes. Very cool stuff! To cap it all off, Gary Whipple delivered a masterful lunch of homemade chili! DO NOT MISS THESE MASTER CLASSES!

Great evening on the Bushkill

We had a very good presentation last evening regarding fishing opportunities on the Bushkill River in Pennsylvania. Thanks to the many members who attended. It was one of the best turnouts that we've had this year!

Chris Elser wows the crowd

Chris provided a great presentation on his guide service and the pursuit of big Stripers with big flies. Very cool stuff.

The Fish Bugs Master Class was Great!

If you didn't have a chance to join us for the Fish Bugs Master Class on January 24th you missed a great chance to learn about macroinvertebrates and the flies that mimic them. Mike Beauchene and Jim Krul put on a great show. Thanks to all who made the day possible and to those that attended. Photos of the day are over on the gallery.
