Conifer revetment - deep brook

Using donated Christmas trees and help from members and youth volunteers, CVTU embedded the donated trees along the banks of Deep Brook in Newtown. These trees will help to stabilize the river bank and provide cover for native and stocked trout.

pratt Nature center cleanup - new milford

The Pratt Nature Center is a 205-acre wildlife preserve and environmental education center in Litchfield County, CT. It is tailor-made for nature education of all ages. CVTU members have conducted cleanup exercises to ensure that the Nature Center land remains pristine & unpolluted to continue to support wonderful opportunities for outdoor fun and education.

Water chemistry & temperature monitoring

For the past 13 years CVTU has completed water chemistry and temperature monitoring for waters in and around Newtown, CT. These efforts have been in cooperation with DEEP and PWA (Pootatuck Watershed Association). The primary purpose of the program is to assess changes in water quality over short and long periods of time. The graph below shows continuing increases in conductivity, an indicator of contamination in Deep Brook.
