This Saturday, January 11, will mark the first session in 2020’s Rod Building exercise. Those registered will meet at Stony Hill Fire Department at 9:00 am. It should be noted that this year’s session is now full, but we encourage all to show up and learn about this skill for future sessions.
John Hildenbrand will again lead us and on Saturday will give an overview of the rod-building process and share information about how to order components. He will bring materials for you to handle so you can see differences in reel seats, guides, hook keepers, etc. There will be a lot to think about when you go home. If you want to customize components, you will likely spend almost as much time planning out your rod as you will spend building it.
Of course you could also just order a pre-packaged kit which will have almost everything you will need and be done with the ordering process in 10 minutes.
John will talk about the advantages and drawbacks of each process and you can make the call as to what is best for you. Remember, this will be YOUR rod and you know best what you like to fish with.
If you are new to rod-building and can't make this meeting on the 11th, I'm going to strongly suggest just going with a kit from Mudhole or any other company you wish to order from.
