"Ugly Sweater" Fishing on the Farminton

  • Upcountry Sportfishing 352 Main Street Pine Meadow, CT United States (map)

Celebrate the season with a bit of humor, time on the water with friends new and old and, of course, an ugly sweater! Join the Candlewood Valley and Mianus Chapters for a day you won't soon forget - whether the trout are willing or not.

We will meet at 10 a.m. at UpCountry Sportfishing at 352 Main Street in New Hartford and spread out along the river to go fishing in small groups. Join us mid-day for coffee and a warming fire at the People's State Park pavilion on East River Road in Barkhamsted.

Starting around 4 p.m., catch up with the crowd at Parrott Delaney Tavern at 37 Greenwoods Road for some drinks, a bite to eat and the warmth of a comfy venue and fellow anglers! Drinks and food are on your own.

Fishing can be surprisingly good on the Farmington in mid-December, with midge hatches and blue wing olives sometimes bringing trout to the surface. More than likely you'll be tossing nymphs and stripping streamers through the pools to get a bite.

Don't have an ugly sweater? No problem - the only important thing is that you come join the fun and take some time out of the busy holidays to relax on a beautiful river with fellow TU members.

Chapter fishing trips are free and open to the public, so be sure to invite your friends and fishing buddies. Beginners and new anglers are always welcome and this is a great trip to learn the Farmington from more experienced anglers willing to show you the ropes. We can lend gear to those of you without the proper rod outfits for larger rivers.
